Firefighters Extinguish Structure Fire in 1500 Block Maple Knoll Court
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- At 2:10 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the resident reporting a fire involving a single-family home. A general alarm was dispatched to the reported structure fire. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, and two shift commanders.
Within three minutes of the initial 911 call, Medic 1 and Engine 3 arrived on scene, had heavy smoke coming from the front door, and established command. Engine 3 removed one male resident from the kitchen area out the rear door. The other resident was out of the house upon arrival. Engine 1 and Engine 3 deployed a hand-line to extinguish the fire in the kitchen and Medic 1 evaluated the resident. Within 15 minutes of the initial 911 call, command advised that the main body of the fire was extinguished.
Salvage and overhaul were performed on the interior of the house, a primary and secondary search was conducted, along with smoke removal, and extinguishment of any hidden fire. There was also one cat removed from the basement in good condition and turned over to the resident. One male resident was transported to Edward Hospital as a precaution for minor smoke inhalation.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Business Group. The house was determined to be uninhabitable by TED. The American Red Cross was contacted on behalf of the residents. The Bolingbrook Fire Department, Plainfield Fire Protection District, West Chicago Fire Protection District, Wheaton Fire Department, Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, and Oswego Fire Protection District all provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident and handled numerous other incidents in town. There were no injuries to firefighters, and the cause of this fire is currently under investigation.
