Firefighters Extinguish Structure Fire in the 5000 Block of Switch Grass Lane

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 3:44 p.m. Thursday, June 8, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from a resident reporting a fire involving the home next door. A general alarm was dispatched to the reported structure fire. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, and two shift commanders.

Within six minutes of the initial 911 call, Truck 10, Engine 6, and Car 4 arrived on scene of a two-story single-family home. Car 4 established command, and a unit went inside to verify everyone was out of the house. A neighbor had a garden hose on the exterior fire that had communicated to the siding and structure of the house. Companies verified that the fire had not spread to the interior and performed overhaul on the exterior of the house. The rest of the fire was extinguished with a pump can.

Within 10 minutes of the companies arriving on scene, command advised that the fire was extinguished. There was damage to the electric meter on the exterior of the home.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Utility, and the Plainfield Fire Protection District. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of this fire was determined to be from mulch landscaping that caught fire and communicated to the exterior siding of the home.
