Five Naperville Businesses Cited for Selling Tobacco to Minors During Recent Compliance Check

The Naperville Police Department recently completed a round of tobacco/alternative nicotine product compliance checks. The compliance checks were performed at 82 Naperville businesses to determine if local tobacco/alternative nicotine product retailers are complying with the minimum-age tobacco laws that prohibit the sale of tobacco/alternative nicotine products to persons under the age of 21.

The following five establishments failed the compliance check, resulting in City Ordinance citations for selling tobacco/alternative nicotine product to a person under the age of 21 years old:

Royal Smokeshop, 2863 95th St. #115

Smoke O Vapor, 686 S Route 59

Smoke Arena, 1570 W Ogden Ave. #104

Casey’s, 20 E Ogden Ave.

U Smoke, 931 E Ogden Ave. #107

With the help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Department of Human Services Tobacco Enforcement Program, the Naperville Police Department educates local tobacco/alternative nicotine product retailers on minimum-age tobacco/nicotine product laws and the importance of verifying the age of customers before selling age-restrictive products such as tobacco/alternative nicotine products. Tobacco/alternative nicotine product retailers are given a retailer education packet and notified that the compliance checks are going to occur in the near future.
