Naperville Launches Community Survey

The Sampled Survey to randomly selected households launches July 5; Open Survey launches August 2

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The City of Naperville is launching a community survey on July 5 to assess resident perspectives on the quality of City services and quality of life in the community. Naperville is partnering with Polco, an independent consultant and civic engagement company, to develop the survey. Randomly selected residents will initially have access to the survey through a mailed invitation to participate. Soon after, all residents can participate in the Open Participation Survey.

The Community Survey is a recommendation out of the 2021 Priorities Plan. The Plan suggested that the City conduct a statistically valid resident survey every two or three years to provide decision-makers with timely community feedback on City services and public sentiment.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish. The responses are confidential, with no identifying information shared. The survey will provide the City with valuable feedback on how residents view the quality of City services, such as police, fire, and public works. It will also ask residents about their satisfaction with the quality of life in Naperville, such as parks, schools, and businesses. Using The National Community Survey™ as its survey template allows Naperville to compare results and benchmark residents’ opinions against other communities across the country.

The Sampled Survey – Randomly Selected Households Open July 5 – August 16

A random sampling of community households is selected to participate from a comprehensive list of residential addresses to reduce bias and obtain feedback from all areas in Naperville. This process selects a subset of Naperville’s population to represent the entire population and obtain representative data. Polco will mail the sampled group a paper invitation with a unique code and survey packet, though respondents may opt to fill out the survey online.

The Open Participation Survey – All Naperville Residents Open August 2 – August 16

This survey is open to all Naperville residents and identical to the Sampled Survey except that it asks which area of Naperville the respondent lives in. Polco will include the Open Participation Survey results separately from the Sampled Survey in its final report.

City staff will present the survey results to the community and City Council in early October. The results will provide insight to discuss possible changes to City services and inform the discussions around City priorities. Naperville last completed a community survey in 2016.
