Fire in the 2000 Block of Schumacher Lane

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 11:29 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call about smoke in a residential structure located on the 2000 block of Schumacher Lane. The Naperville ECC immediately dispatched a full still assignment consisting of two engines, one ladder truck, one medic unit, and two battalion commanders. While units were en route, the ECC received a report of flames seen. The alarm was immediately upgraded to a general alarm, adding one heavy rescue, an additional medic, ladder truck, and engine.

At 11:33 p.m., the first fire suppression companies arrived on the scene and reported smoke and visible fire from the roof line of the structure. Initial arriving companies completed a 360-degree survey of the structure, provided an on-scene report, established command, and began fire operations. The homeowner and their family were home at the time of the incident; all occupants were able to exit the home before the fire department arrived.

Fire companies immediately began offensive fire operations, including deploying handlines and initiating interior primary search. Crews overhauled the fire building to ensure fire spread was limited and no adjoining structures were damaged as a result of the fire. The fire was controlled within 15 minutes, and companies remained on the scene for an hour to ensure the residence was secured.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Electric Department. The cause of the fire was determined to be storm-related. Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000, and the home was deemed uninhabitable. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
