Municipal Officers Electoral Board Rules on Objection to City Council Nomination Petition

Ruling on objection to another petition continued to Thursday, Dec. 5

The City of Naperville informs residents and interested parties that the Municipal Officers Electoral Board met Wednesday, Nov. 13, on objections to two candidates’ nomination petitions for the upcoming 2025 Consolidated General Election.

The local electoral board, which is comprised of Mayor Scott Wehrli, Naperville City Clerk Dawn Portner and Naperville City Council member Patrick Kelly, heard evidence regarding objections filed on Nov. 4 against the City Council nomination petitions of Nag Jaiswal and Farid Shabazz.

In Case Number 24-01, McGuire et al. V. Jaiswal, both parties appeared before the Board. A hearing was opened but then continued at the parties' request so that a record check may be conducted concerning the objectors’ challenges to the candidate’s petition signatures. The hearing on the Jaiswal objection will resume on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers of the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. The hearing will be broadcast live on government access TV station WCNC (Ch. 6 – Astound, Ch. 10 – Comcast, Ch. 99 – AT&T) and streamed live via the City’s website at www.naperville.il.us.

In Case Number 24-02, McGuire et al. V. Shabazz, both parties appeared before the Board and a hearing was completed. The Board found in favor of the objectors, voting 2-1 to sustain the objection. The Board's decision is final and appealable.
