Parking Deck Maintenance at Multiple Facilities Begins Sept. 3

Maintenance work at Municipal Center and Van Buren parking decks expected to be complete by end of October

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3, the City of Naperville, in partnership with J.Gill and Company, will start maintenance work on the upper level of the Municipal Center Parking Deck, located at 400 S. Eagle St., and the Van Buren Parking Deck, located at 43 W. Van Buren Ave. Both projects are part of a multi-year maintenance plan to ensure the parking facilities are maintained as a sustainable asset. Pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, all work should be complete, and all parking spaces available at both parking facilities by the end of October 2024.

Municipal Center Parking Deck

Work on the deck’s upper level consisting of concrete surface repairs, ADA sidewalk repairs and joint sealants will occur in two phases. Beginning Sept. 3, the east side of the deck’s upper level will be closed. Work will move to the west side of the upper level once work is complete on the east side. Due to the nature of the work, no parking will be available on the portion of the deck where work is being performed. Each phase is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete.

The Eagle Street and Webster Street entrances to the deck’s upper portion will remain open at most times; however, isolated closures to the entrance and circle will take place throughout the project when necessary to complete work. At least one entrance to the upper level will remain open at all times. Although accessible parking spaces may need to be temporarily relocated, the same number of spaces will be maintained, with a goal of keeping at least four spaces available on the upper level.

Efforts will be made to keep as many parking spaces available as possible during construction, but visitors to the Municipal Center are reminded to utilize the publicly available parking spaces in the Water Street Parking Facility at 120 S. Water St. across from the Municipal Center at any time. Motorists accessing the deck are asked to please follow all traffic control devices in place. Van Buren Parking Deck

Beginning the week of Sept. 3, work consisting of power-washing, concrete repairs and paint touch-ups will close portions of the Van Buren Parking Deck. Crews will begin with powering-washing one level of the deck at a time, beginning with the fifth level. This work is expected to take two to three weeks, with some work potentially taking place overnight. Once complete, crews will begin concrete repairs and painting touch-ups throughout the deck where needed. Areas where work is being performed will be closed and inaccessible until the work is complete. In addition, portions of the floor directly under the work may be closed for safety, depending on the nature of the work. Signs will be in place to clearly mark closed levels and parking spaces and direct motorists through the closed areas.

Crews will work Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; however, some work may take place overnight. Unless otherwise noted, all levels of the parking deck will be re-opened and available for use on Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors are encouraged to follow all posted detour and closure signs and to use caution while accessing the parking deck. As a reminder, overnight parking is prohibited in the Van Buren parking deck on Sundays. For information and updates on this project, visit www.naperville.il.us/vanburendeck.
