Police Secure Charges Against Chicago Man in April Shooting on Leach Drive

A 19-year-old man from Chicago was arrested July 24, 2024, on felony armed robbery charges following a Naperville Police investigation into an April 2024 shooting at a Naperville residence.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Naperville Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2500 block of Leach Drive for the report of a gunshot victim. Responding officers located a 22-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital and has since been released. Two offenders had reportedly fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.

The preliminary investigation indicated the victim and the offenders knew each other prior to the incident, during which the offenders also allegedly stole cash from the victim.

The first suspect, a juvenile, was arrested the same day, April 16, and charged with Aggravated Robbery with a Firearm, a Class 1 felony. 

Naperville Police obtained a warrant for the second suspect, Kanyon J. Hardy, 19, of the 4200 block of West Washington Boulevard in Chicago. Hardy, who allegedly discharged the firearm during the incident, was arrested July 24 by Forest Park Police and is charged with three counts of Armed Robbery, all Class X felonies.

The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
