Structure Fire in the 300 Block of Carriage Hill

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 7:44 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call about a reported exterior shed fire at a residential structure located in the 300 block of Carriage Hill. The Naperville ECC immediately dispatched a full still assignment, consisting of two engines, a ladder truck, a medic unit, and two battalion commanders. While units were en route, the ECC received a report from Naperville Police Department units on scene of flames seen and possible extension into the residential structure. The response was upgraded to a general alarm, adding an additional engine, ladder truck, medic unit, and a heavy rescue.

At 7:48 p.m., the first fire suppression company arrived on the scene and reported smoke and visible fire from the left side of the structure. Initial arriving companies completed a 360-degree survey of the structure, provided an on-scene report, established command, and began fire suppression operations. All occupants were reported to have evacuated the home prior to the fire companies arriving. A search of the occupancy was completed to ensure there weren’t any inhabitants in the structure.

Fire companies immediately began offensive fire operations, including deploying handlines and initiating interior primary search. Crews overhauled the fire building to ensure fire spread was limited and no additional adjoining structures were damaged because of the fire. The fire was deemed under control at 8:07 p.m. Companies remained on the scene awaiting the arrival of a fire investigator.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Emergency Management Agency. The Darien Woodridge Fire Protection District, the Oswego Fire Department, the Plainfield Fire Department, and the Lockport Fire Protection District provided station coverage while Naperville units were on the incident scene. Damage to the home is estimated at $110,000. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
