Public Invited to Open House to Discuss Potential Road Improvements
Naperville is updating the Road Improvement Plan to accommodate the City's continued growth
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The City of Naperville invites the community to attend an open house to learn about the City’s Road Improvement Plan and to share thoughts and ideas regarding Naperville’s roadways. The Road Improvement Plan identifies roadway issues and recommends future investments needed to improve traffic flow.
The City’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Department is working with Kimley-Horn, an engineering and design consultant, to update the plan. This update aligns with Naperville’s strategic goals, as mentioned in the Naperville 2027: Investing in Our Community Priorities Plan under the Mobility focus area. This focus area’s goal is to improve community mobility. The goal also includes updating the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, which is anticipated to occur in 2025-2026.
The open house will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Meeting Room B of the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. Representatives from Kimley-Horn and TED will share details about the planning process, provide an overview of the City’s roadway network, and discuss considerations for future improvements. The community should be prepared to comment on areas where they experience traffic delays, poor traffic conditions, or other traffic-related concerns.
Written comments may also be submitted using an interactive ArcGIS map called PublicCoordinate. The map displays the City’s roadways and lets the public comment directly on a road or intersection. A link to the tool, directions on how to use the map, and other presentation materials will be added to the Road Improvement Plan webpage on the day of the open house. Comments can also be emailed to TED Engineering Manager, Andy Hynes, at HynesA@naperville.il.us. Public comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.
“While Naperville’s road network is largely established, traffic volumes on City streets are expected to continue to increase through 2050. Re-evaluating the Road Improvement Plan is the first step toward implementing the City’s mobility plan goal,” says Andy Hynes, TED Engineering Manager. “As part of this process, the City is seeking the public’s input to identify locations to consider for future intersection and corridor improvements that will help meet long-term traffic flow needs.”
Public input will be considered throughout planning and will influence roadway improvement recommendations. Preliminary recommendations will be discussed at a future Transportation Advisory Board meeting and the final Road Improvement Plan update is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025.
