The City Invites Naperville High School Students to Submit Artwork
Selected artwork will be used to wrap six streetlight controller boxes this summer
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The City of Naperville invites local teen artists to beautify our community by submitting original artwork. The selected artwork will be used to wrap six streetlight controller boxes near Naperville North and Naperville Central high schools, transforming the utility boxes into eye-catching public art. Submissions will be accepted through Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
There is no cost to submit a design, and the City will handle the artwork printing and installation. All artwork types (e.g., painting, graphic design, mixed media, illustration) are welcome if they meet the submission guidelines.
Submission Guidelines:
- Artists must be Naperville high school students ages 13 to 18.
- One submission per person, please.
- The artwork must measure 50 inches tall, 30 inches wide and 16.5 inches deep.
- Designs should flow visually across all four sides of the box.
- Adobe Illustrator (vector graphics) is preferred, but Adobe Photoshop files are also acceptable.
- Files should be sent as a JPG or PDF.
- Political or profane artwork is not allowed.
To be considered, artwork needs to be emailed to City Clerk Dawn Portner at portnerd@naperville.il.us. The submission should include the artist’s name, age, school and contact information. Selected artists will be notified by Tuesday, May 20, and the designs will be installed by Monday, June 30.
“The City of Naperville is excited to partner with teen artists as we wrap several of our streetlight controller boxes in north Naperville,” said Dawn Portner, City Clerk. “A few years ago, we worked with students from Neuqua Valley High School to wrap streetlight controller boxes on or near 95th Street, and it was a great experience for all involved. Naperville’s students are talented in so many ways, and it’s an honor for us to display their artwork through this project.”
