Municipal Center Parking Deck Improvements

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3, the City of Naperville, in partnership with J.Gill and Company, will begin maintenance work on the upper level of the Municipal Center parking deck, located at 400 S. Eagle St. Pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, all work should be complete, and all parking spaces available by the end of October 2024.

Project Overview

This work, which includes concrete surface repairs, ADA sidewalk repairs and joint sealants, is part of a multi-year maintenance plan to ensure the parking facility is maintained as a sustainable asset. The Municipal Center parking deck is over 30 years old, and certain components are reaching the end of their useful life.

Project Updates

Sept. 3: The east side of the upper level of the deck will be closed for the first phase of work. The Eagle Street and Webster Street entrances to the upper portion of the deck will remain open at most times; however, isolated closures to the entrance and circle will take place throughout the project when necessary to complete work. At least one entrance to the upper level will remain open at all times. Visitors are encouraged to park in the lower level of the deck or the publicly available parking spaces in the Water Street Parking Deck across from the Municipal Center.

The start date and work schedule are subject to change and all work is weather dependent.

Timeline

Construction on the deck will occur in two phases. The first phase involves the closure of the east half of the upper level of the deck. The second phase involves the closure of the west half of the upper level of the deck. The work schedule is subject to change and all work is weather dependent. Pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, all work should be complete, and all parking spaces available by the end October 2024.

Impacts to Parking

Efforts will be made to keep as many parking spaces available as possible during construction but visitors to the Municipal Center are reminded to utilize the lower level of the Municipal Center parking deck or the publicly available parking spaces in the Water Street Parking Deck at 120 S. Water St. across from the Municipal Center at any time. Motorists accessing the deck are asked to please follow all traffic control devices that will be put in place.

Parking on Upper Level: Work will take place in two phases. Crews will work on one half of the upper level per phase, with the first phase of work beginning on the east side of the deck. Due to the nature of the work, no parking will be available on the portion of the deck where work is being performed. While one half of the parking level will be open at all times, visitors are encouraged to park on the lower level of the deck or find alternate parking during construction.

Accesible Parking Spaces: Although accessible parking spaces may need to be temporarily relocated, the same number of spaces will be maintained, with a goal of keeping at least four spaces available on the upper level.
