West Street Road Reconstruction
The City of Naperville will begin reconstruction work on West Street between Emerald Drive and Rickert Drive the week of Aug. 7 as part of the City’s 2023 Street Resurfacing and Reconstruction Program. Construction will include removal and replacement of pavement on West Street between Emerald Drive and Rickert Drive.
Work will take place in two phases, with completion scheduled before the end of September, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances. During phase one, crews will reconstruct the northbound side of the road, moving north and southbound traffic to the southbound side. Once complete, crews will reconstruct the southbound side of the roadway and all traffic will relocate temporarily to the northbound side. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times.
During construction please allow additional travel time if visiting this area or seek alternate routes. Traffic control devices will be in place to direct motorists through the construction area.
Funded by state and local tax funds, Naperville’s Roadway Resurfacing Program is designed to create safe roads. Each year, City roads are evaluated to determine which ones need preventative maintenance such as patching, microsurfacing and crack-filling, as well as which ones require complete replacement of the entire street surface layer by resurfacing or reconstruction.
Construction Impacts and Accessibility
The impacted area includes Emerald Drive, Mobile Court, Williamsburg Drive, Savannah Circle, Merrimac Circle, Gartner Road, Plainfield/Naperville Road, and the Hobson Plaza shopping center. At least one entrance to impacted neighborhoods will be maintained throughout the project.
Every effort will be made to ensure at least one access point to all impacted neighborhoods will be maintained; however, there may be short periods of time when neighborhoods with one access point will be inaccessible. This work will be done midday to provide the least amount of inconvenience to residents.
Mail Delivery
During both phases of construction, mail delivery will take place as usual. The contractor will work to make all the necessary accommodations for the postal services to access Mobile Court, Savannah Circle, and Merrimac Circle to allow mail delivery as it is currently provided.
Garbage Collection
During both phases of construction, garbage collection will take place as usual. The contractor will work to make all the necessary accommodations for the garbage and recycling trucks to access Mobile Court, Savannah Circle, and Merrimac Circle to allow garbage collection as it is currently provided.
Emergency Services
The Naperville Police and Fire Departments have been notified of this construction project. At no time will their services or access to the area be compromised.
