Residential Energy Efficiency Incentives
All funding for 2024 has been awarded.
As of May 20, Naperville has awarded 100% of available funding for residential energy efficiency/renewable energy projects for the year. The rebate programs noted below have ended for the year, as all budgeted funding has been awarded. Please note that projects purchased or installed in 2024 will not be eligible for incentives in future years. This applies to attic insulation, single-pane window replacement, residential solar, air conditioning tune-up and furnace blower motor replacement projects.
The City of Naperville Electric Utility is offering incentives for homeowners who install energy-efficient attic insulation and replace single-pane windows.
- To qualify for the incentive, applicants must be residential Naperville Electric Utility customers who own or rent their residence.
- 100% complete applications/documentation must be received within 120 days of installation.
- The incentives are limited to 50% of the project, including material and installation, with a $2,500 maximum rebate for each energy-efficient improvement.
- Customers could qualify for a maximum rebate of $5,000, if they installed both attic insulation and energy-efficient windows.
- Incentives will end when all funding is allocated. Projects PURCHASED OR INSTALLED in the calendar year when all funding is expended will NOT be eligible for future incentives.
- Applicants must provide a copy of their current utility bill showing they are a contributor to the Renewable Energy Program at the $5-per-month level or above for a minimum of five years after award date. Renewable Energy Program contributions are the source of funding for these rebates. For more information and to sign up for the program, visit www.naperville.il.us/renewable.
Attic Insulation
The final level of insulation, (pre-existing and new) must have a minimum R-Value of R-49. A final insulation depth of at least 15” will be considered sufficient to reach the required R-49 value for the rebate. It is strongly recommended that homeowners request their insulation contractor to include an Air Seal step as part of the attic insulation project.
Here are some tips for applying for the rebate.

Window Replacement
Windows must have a U-factor of 0.30 or lower.
- The grant amount is $250 per window, with a $2,500 maximum award.
- The window must separate a heated space from an unheated space and must replace a single-pane window with a double or triple-pane window.
- Homeowners must submit close-up photos of each existing single-pane window replaced to document all windows are single-pane.
According to the Department of Energy, heat gain and heat loss through windows are responsible for 25% to 30% of residential heating and cooling energy use. For windows, the rate of heat loss is indicated in terms of the U-factor. The lower the U-factor, the greater a window’s resistance to heat flow and the better its insulating value.
Here are some tips for applying for the window replacement rebate.

Furnace Blower Motor and AC Tune-Up
Rebates are being offered to City of Naperville Electric Utility residential customers who upgrade their furnace blower motor and/or have an air conditioning unit tune-up (once every three years). The furnace blower motor rebate is only for those residential customers who replace their old furnace blower motor. It is a rebate of the lower up to $100 and 50% of the customer’s cost. The air conditioning tune-up rebate program is $25 and is available to residential customers once during each three-year period. Residential customers must contribute to the Naperville Renewable Energy Program at the $5 per month or above level for a minimum of five years after award date.
