Doug A. Krieger

Since 1969, Naperville has operated under the Council-Manager form of government as provided by state law.

Doug Krieger has been Naperville’s City Manager since December 2008, managing a $600 million budget and a 974-person workforce serving the City. In this role, he oversees all City departments, including Finance; Public Safety; Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED); the Water and Electric utilities; the Department of Public Works; Legal; Information Technology; Human Resources; Community Services; and the City Manager’s Office.

During his tenure, the City has continued its path of strong economic development; made gains in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as sustainability and affordable housing; and consistently demonstrated the high quality of its services to residents. While serving as City Manager, he has focused on developing and retaining a first-class staff who serve the community with professionalism and pride.     

He is a board member of the Downtown Naperville Alliance, the Illinois Fire Pension Investment Fund, and the executive board of the Naperville Development Partnership. He also serves on the board of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, as well as its Nominating and Manager’s committees.

He is committed to making sure Naperville remains a community that is safe, diverse and innovative, with a robust economy and high quality of life for all.

Personal: Doug has lived in Naperville for 30 years, and is the father of two children, Eric, and Kirsten.
