2025 Water Main Replacement Projects
In support of the City’s priority to provide utility services that are reliable and safe, Naperville's Water and Wastewater Utility is working to replace aging water mains in the following locations in 2025.
Replacing aging water mains reduces the number of water main breaks, increases water flow and water service reliability, lowers maintenance costs and extends the life of the system.
Royal Oaks Water Main Improvements
Project Details:The primary purpose of the project is to replace the aging water main on Anne Road, Elizabeth Avenue, and White Oak Drive. The existing water main is a cast iron pipe installed in the 1960s and has reached the end of its useful life. It will be replaced and upsized to a 8” pipe in accordance with City standards. Work will also include the replacement of the water valves, hydrants and services along the length of the water main. View a map of the impacted area.
Schedule: Weather permitting, construction is expected to begin in April and end in October for the water main work.

Saybrook Phase II Water Main Improvements
Project Details: The primary purpose of the project is to replace approximately 8,200 feet of aging water main in the Saybrook subdivision between Washington and Wright Streets and from Bauer Road and 11th Avenue. The work will take place on the following streets: Greenbriar Court, Tanglewood Lane, 14th Avenue, Loomis Street, Bayberry Lane, E. 12th Avenue and Wright Street. The existing 6" water main is a cast iron pipe installed in the 1950s and 1960s. It will be replaced and upsized to an 8" ductile iron pipe in accordance with City standards. Ductile iron is more cost-efficient and prolongs the life of the system. Work will also include the replacement of the water valves, hydrants and services along the length of the water main. During Phase I of this project, water mains were replaced on 11th Avenue. Phase III is still in the planning stage and will complete the water main replacement in the Saybrook subdivision.
Schedule: Pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, construction is expected to begin in April and end in October for the water main work. Crews will generally work from Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasionally, it may be necessary for the work to continue beyond 3:30 p.m. Crews are usually off the site by 5 p.m.

- Project Impacts
-
Please note that construction of this type involves some level of inconvenience to residents and visitors. We will do our best to minimize this impact.
Work Zone: Every effort will be made to keep streets accessible; however, residents should expect temporary delays when moving through the impacted area. While intermittent lane and intersection closures are expected, streets should be fully accessible by the end of the workday.
Driveways: The new water main will be installed under the roadway pavement. Aside from temporary disruptions related to installation and water service connections, driveways will be accessible. Any trenches across driveways will be filled with stone and made accessible by the end of the workday or sooner.
- Impacts to Residential Water Service
-
Except for emergencies, water mains should always remain in service. Intermittent disruptions to water service are possible during construction. Crews will make every effort to minimize the downtime and proactively notify of any planned shutdowns 48 hours in advance.
Later in the project, after the new water mains are installed, individual water service disruptions will be limited to a single shut-down for 30 minutes to allow for the transfer of the residential water service from the old main onto the new main. Impacted residents will be notified in advance.
During service transfers there is potential of sediment being disturbed into the water. Your water may briefly experience some discoloration. If this occurs, please run your faucets for a few minutes and clean out any aerators you may have. This should resolve any discolorations you may experience.
